Summers finally here and thank goodness for that. It is not just the sun that has turned out for a change but the summer species have put in an appearance as well. Lots of different fish caught from all along the beach and on the rock marks around Portland. The water is so clear it is like looking into and aquarium.

I am no expert on Conger Eels, but there have been lots of them being caught all along the beach from Moonfleet to West Bexington, with some anglers reporting as many as ten in a session with some big beach caught fish up to 25lb.

Divers from Crystal Viz on Portland have posted confirmed reports of large Porbeabgle Sharks taking their speared fish from their catchlines around Portland and certainly within casting distance. Yesterday evening I witnessed an angler bringing in a string of Mackerel only to see his line hit twice and be thrown above the water and two Mackerel taken from it. I have seen similar attacks whilst boat fishing in Florida and I know they have been sharks. His however may have been large Bass, but what ever it was, it was impressive.

Water Temperature: 15.6*c  (half a degree jump over yesterday)                         Weymouth High Tide: 10.19pm, 2.19m

Wind SW 8mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Calm and the water is clear along the beach with the exception of the area I reported over the past week around West Bexington where it is slightly coloured.

Portland: Calm the water is clear.

Portland Harbour: Calm. Water is clear

Weymouth Bay: Calm with the water clear.

Chesil Beach forecast: The beach is fishing exceptionally well now. Bream, Gurnard, lots of Smoothound, a few Bass, Garfish and lots of Mackerel. The Bream are more towards the Portland end of Chesil, but the rest of the fish are all along the beach. I have heard no reports of any Triggers being caught, but I have heard of some nice Congers coming from Moonfleet and all the way to West Bexington.

Portland: The Island is fishing very well. Lots of Wrasse and Pollock and a few Bass have all come to me on lures. Divers are reporting plenty of big Bass further out and some John Dory and Bream around Chisel Cove.

Portland Harbour: A few small Bass and Black Bream have come from the shallow water areas along Hamm Beach as well as some nice Flounder.

Weymouth Bay: Stone Pier is a great mark to take your kids and introduce them to the numerous species that live on it during the summer. Bream, Pollock, Wrasse and even Bass can be caught by just dropping a line over the side. A great way to spend a summer day in Weymouth..

Boats and Kayaks: Great weather for boat fishing all weekend. Even the smaller boats will be able to get out to the reefs around Portland and the Shambles. The charter fleet are reporting great catches for Bream, Rays and Turbot locally.
