Light winds and overcast conditions and a mid size tide make for some good conditions for most species on the beach and from the rocks.
Wind forecast SW 8mph,
Water Temperature: 12.5*c Weymouth High Tide: 4.46pm, 1.85m
Chesil Beach: Calm with a very small ripple; water clarity is good,
Portland Bill: slight swell but generally calm on the East side; water is clear.
Portland Harbour: Calm; water clarity is good but slightly coloured at Ferrybridge.
Weymouth Bay: Calm . Water clarity is good.
Chesil Beach forecast: Lots of Mackerel all along the beach, but they do seem to be at distance. Bigger tides for the weekend should stir things up a bit but it has been quite on the beach. Not sure if this has anything to do with the large number of Cuttlefish that are around at the moment. That should make them a good bait. Still some Plaice and Dabs coming from West Bexington and Cogden, but Abbotsbury is producing the few Rays that are coming out. Chesil Cove could be good for a Bass at Dawn or Dusk.
Portland: It seems Portland is the place to be at the moment. It is fishing very well for Pollock, Wrasse and Garfish. A few decent Bass have also been landed, mostly to lures.
Portland Harbour: Plenty of Flounder, Mackerel, Mullet and Bass in the harbour. Try the beach next to the sailing academy. I spotted a lot of Bass moving along the beach road in the shallows this morning, unfortunatly I did not have my rod with me, just my dogs!
Weymouth Bay: A little bit quiet around the bay at the moment. Plenty of small fish from both piers. The forecast for tomorrow is a stiff Easterly wind. This should kick up a nice bit of surf along Preston end of the beach which will produce Bass to bait.
Boat and Kayak. The Weymouth and West Bay charter boats are having great catches at the moment. Still some lovely Plaice and a few Turbot coming off the Shambles. Wreck fishing for Cod and Pollock has been exceptional. Lots of Kayak’s out and about fishing Chesil Cove and Portland Harbour, they are getting plenty of different species.
