Sorry that I did not do any updates over the weekend but I was busy moving, so I didn’t have the time. What a lovely weekend to have been out fishing, apart from a 10 minute trip to Checkpoint to get 4 Mackerel for my dinner, I didn’t have a chance for any more fishing. With a bit of luck I might get out this afternoon and head down the Bill or Ferrybridge to try and get one of the many Bass that are in the Harbour at the moment. In fact there were so many Bass this weekend that it is rumoured that even Mike from Chesil Bait n Tackle caught some.

Wind forecast SW 12mph dropping to a very light breeze this evening.

Water Temperature: 12.6*c                 Weymouth High Tide: 12.17pm, 1.51m

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Very little swell with a small ripple. Water clarity is good, but with a scummy surface layer of May water running about 2m from the edge.

Portland Bill: Slight swell, with a small ripple on the West side. Water is clear.

Portland Harbour: Slight ripple on the water with great clarity.

Weymouth Bay: Calm with barely a ripple. Water clarity is good.

Chesil Beach forecast: Lots of Mackerel all along the beach, with Gurnard starting to show in good numbers especially down the Abbotsbury end of Chesil. I heard from a reliable source that divers had shot two huge Bass in Chesil Cove yesterday. The smaller was estimated at around 12lb and the largest was at least 15lb. Oh how it makes me want to cry, still they have as much right to the fish as anglers have. Night tides have been producing some Smoothound on Peeler Crab and there are still lots of Dogfish and Pout around. With all the mackerel being filleted on the beach, it is worthwhile putting a Mackerel head in close for a Bass.

Portland: The Bill will fish well for Pollock, Garfish, and Wrasse. All these species can be caught on bait or if you want maximum sport then try for them on lures. Changing light may produce a Bass or two if you can get through the Pollock.

Portland Harbour: Plenty of Flounder, Mackerel, Mullet and Bass in the harbour. A lot of the Bass have fallen to Rapture lures.

Weymouth Bay: Chance of a Ray from the Preston Beach end of the Bay. Weymouth Angling Society’s weekly junior match will be on the Stone Pier tonight. That is normally a good indicator for what is around. Expect Wrasse, Pout, Pollock, Garfish and small Bream to come all along the length of the pier.

Unfortunealty advertising that there are lots of bass around, and precisely where they are, wont help.
