Just a quick update today. Chesil beach is currently unfishable at the Portland end. Reports from a couple of guys that are fishing down West Bexington are that conditions are tough, but still fishable. There should be some nice Bass in the surf.

Water Temperature: 17.6*c             Weymouth High Tide: 12.45pm, 1.66m

Wind: W 24mph gusting 30mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Rough with a lot of weed and a long surf run off. It is unfishable at the eastern end.

Portland: Rough with a dangerous swell.

Portland Harbour: Wavelets with almost clear water.

Weymouth Bay: Wavelets with clear water.

Chesil Beach forecast: Bass in the surf if you can fish it. Big baits of Peeler Crab, Mackerel head or whole squid.

Portland: The rough conditions put the wrasse of and force them to move out to deeper water. Pollock and Bass are possible targets. A good chance of a Bass on a lure.

Portland Harbour: A few school Bass being caught around Ferrybridge on lures and along the beach towards Sandsfoot Sailing Club. You should be able to get some Flounder and Black Bass from the same marks using Ragworm.

Weymouth Bay: Some nice Pollock and Wrasse being landed on both piers over the past couple of days. With the wind picking up, the pier will be a good safe place to catch fish. Mackerel and Garfish can often be caught on float fished Mackerel strip. No feathering is allowed on the pier.

On Sunday Weymouth Angling Society are having their annual crab fishing competition. It is a great family day out and worth a visit to the harbour.  Starts at 1pm. Entry is £2 if you want a crab line and bucket, or £1 without. For more details and directions take a look at their website http://www.weymouthanglingsociety.com

Boat & Kayak fishing: I had a good day out on the boat on Tuesday on the first Fishing Tails organised trip. It was good to meet some new faces. We managed a mixed bag of Bream, Pollock, Plaice and of course Mackerel. I am going to do another one on Tuesday the 4th of September so if you want to join me then drop me an email to sean@fishingtails.co.uk

A nice brace of Bream and Plaice on our boat trip

Fishing both from the boat and Kayak has been very good this week with some nice Black Bream and Brill being landed. Kayak Anglers fishing Portland harbour and around Portland have managed some nice bags of Bass, Pollock and Bream. I am very keen to launch of from Chesil and fish the deep water off the beach. First I need the weather to change and be lovely and calm. I am looking to join up with some experienced Kayak Anglers to fish these more dangerous marks.
