Just had a look down over at Chesil. It looks pretty rough but for those hardy souls it could very well be worth fishing. The water is fairly dirty and rough but you should be able to get a big bait out with a 7oz lead and keep it out there. There is a good chance of a Cod and maybe a Bass.

Water Temperature: 11*c             Weymouth High Tide: 10.03pm, 1.73m

Wind: NW 25mph

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: rough with fairly dirty water waves sometimes exceeding 2m

Portland: Rough on the West a bit calmer on the East with waves between 1 and 2m. Plenty of Weed in Church Ope Cove.

Portland Harbour: Small chop with coloured water.

Weymouth Bay: Small chop with coloured water.

Chesil Beach forecast: With the water now well and truly stirred up your chance of catching Cod will rise considerably. As always when targeting Cod use large baits. Peeler Crab, Hermit and Lugworm topped with a small Calamari Squid are ideal baits. You cold always try rigging up a Pennel rig with a 4/0 bottom hook and a small top hook to catch a small Pout or Whiting and hope that a Cod or Bass will engulf the whole lot and hook itself on the larger lower hook. The dirty water will also mean packs of Dogfish and Pout will be around.

Portland: The Wrasse fishing will be off until the swell settles down a bit, but the Pollock fishing should be good still. Fishing on some of the higher marks on the East side of the Island with a large fish bait could see you hook a decent Cod or a big Bull Huss. Rotten bottom rigs are essential on these marks.

Portland Harbour: With fairly coloured water your fishing in the harbour is going to be limited to the odd Flounder and maybe a bonus small Bass.

Weymouth Bay: If you want a more sheltered mark then Preston Beach will provide you with that and some welcome fish. Whiting will be the most common of fish at the moment, but there is always a chance of a nice Ray or a late Bass. The Harbour is not fishing well due to the amount of fresh water, but the piers are producing Squid.

Guiding: Due to the Bass fishing falling off I am only taking bookings for traditional bait fishing sessions for December. I will be targeting Cod, and Whiting from the beach and large Wrasse and Pollock from the shore. I am happy to fit in a few short Pollock and Wrasse lure sessions from the rocks, but these will be limited to 1/2 day or 2 to 3 hour sessions. These can be tailored to your requirements.
