Another Indian Summer day to look forward to. It is pretty poor for lure fishing but great for me getting out on the Kayak again. Some bad news for the Bill, someone has put gill nets all along the shore for as far as I can see either side of Portland Bill. I turned up there yesterday for a dusk lure fishing session. Paid my rip off parking money, only to be met with miles of gill nets. I didn’t get a single knock which is very unusual.

Water Temperature: 17.1*c             Weymouth High Tide: 10.48pm, 1.84m

Wind: Hardly a breath of wind for the next two days

Sea Conditions:

Chesil Beach: Calm and clear

Portland: Calm and clear.

Portland Harbour: Calm and clear

Weymouth Bay: Calm with clear water.

Chesil Beach forecast: The beach is back on fire again, with fish coming all along it. West Bexington has been really good for Plaice. The problem is everyone knows it and the beach is packed again, especially in the evenings. The larger Bream that we expect at this time of year have finally showed up with some very nice specimens coming from the Ferrybridge area and towards Portland. Plenty of Mackerel all along the beach and the odd Ray turning up.

Portland: Lovely conditions to fish the Bill today. Shame some greedy B*****d has gone and netted the whole area. You will still pick up the odd Wrasse and a few Pollock that will escape the nets.

Portland Harbour: It is still fishing very well, although this will tail off as the tides become smaller. Plenty of small Bass, Scad, Mackerel, Wrasse and Flounder around the sand bars either side of Ferrybridge.

Weymouth Bay: You never know what the Piers will throw up at this time of year. The harbour is full of big Mullet and some Flounder.

Boat & Kayak fishing: I have seen some great reports from the Charter Fleet as well as private boats that have managed out this weekend. Some cracking Plaice from the Shambles and a real mixed bag of Bream, Smoothound, Tope and Gurnard. We are off on a boat trip tomorrow so don’t expect an update unless things change dramatically over night. The next 5 hour boat trip will be on Tuesday the 11th of September so if you want to join me then drop me an email to sean@fishingtails.co.uk The cost is £25 for the trip. Rods and Reels can be hired for £10 if you don’t have your own, but numbers are limited for the tackle.

I am hoping to get out on my Kayak this afternoon, as I have seen a lot of Bass moving between the yachts at Sandsfoot. I will let you know how I get on.

I have a few slots available in September for guiding and one to one sessions. These can be tailored to your requirements including mixed days of bait and lure fishing. Drop me an email for more details sean@fishingtails.co.uk
